Now Showing: Friday 10 – Thursday 16 June 2011

Park Circus supplies films for public screening around the world, with titles for the next four weeks listed on our Now Showing page. Each week we highlight a selection coming up in the next seven days.

Director John Huston was known for films which put human nature under the microscope: his 1972 drama, Fat City, which comes to Zurich’s Kino Xenix between Friday 10 and Sunday 12 June, is one such picture. Stacy Keach stars alongside Jeff Bridges in an offbeat boxing drama of which Roger Ebert said “the movie’s edges are filled with small, perfect character performances.”

The 14th Shanghai International Film Festival, which runs Saturday 11 – Sunday 19 June, will screen four Park Circus titles in its impressive line-up: The Best Intentions, Les Miserables, Rain Man and Gilda.

Jim Loach’s Oranges and Sunshine, coming to Germany’s Internationales Filmfest Emden between Saturday 11 – Sunday 19 June, is the true story of Margaret Humphreys (Emily Watson), a social worker from Nottingham who uncovered one of the most significant social scandals of recent times: the deportation of thousands of children from the United Kingdom to Australia.

Silent British drama, Hindle Wakes, will be showing at Spain’s Institut Catala De Les Industries Culturals on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 June. The 1927 adaptation of Stanley Houghton’s play, considered one of the finest silent films to emerge from the UK, centres on a brief liaison between a young couple which proves scandalous to the pair’s families.

Finally, as part of the BFI’s Jeff Bridges season, Friday 11 and Thursday 16 June sees the cinema screen Bob Rafelson’s 1976 film, Stay Hungry. Bridges stars as a young heir to a fortune who instead decides to help out a local gym, offering The Dude yet another opportunity to display his comic timing. Watch out for an appearance from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
