- In the USA, the town of Normal, Illinois will screen Terence Davies’ 1992 biographical drama, The Long Day Closes, on Wednesday 18 May
- Switzerland’s Filmpodium der Stadt Zurich heads back to 1959 for Joseph L Mankiewicz’s Suddenly Last Summer, between Wednesday 18 May and Saturday 4 June. The film features Elizabeth Taylor in the story of a brain surgeon’s treatment of a young girl’s neuroses and his discovery of a dark family history
- Part of a special season entitled Magnificent Obsessions: Hollywood Dames from Screwball to Sirk, which runs from Thursday 19 to Tuesday 31 May, the Australian Centre For Moving Image in Melbourne will show three Park Circus-licensed titles: Platinum Blonde (1931), It Happened One Night (1934) and His Girl Friday (1940)
- In the UK, Glasgow’s Southside Film Festival will be bringing the world’s most famous consulting detective to the big screen on Sunday 15 May with a showing of Billy Wilder’s The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. Robert Stephens stars as Holmes in a curious tale involving a Russian ballerina and the Loch Ness Monster
- Finally, our major release in the UK and Ireland this week is the restored version of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. The 1976 classic depicts an America still recovering from Vietnam as the streets of New York push Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) towards violence
