Directed by Mike Hodges, starring Sam J. Jones and Max von Sydow, and with a soundtrack created by Queen, 1980’s cult sci-fi adventure Flash Gordon is screening in Bologna, Italy at Biografilm Festival, organised by Associazione Fanatic About Festivals on Sunday 19 June. Michelangelo Antonoini’s The Passenger is back on the big screen on Wednesday 22 June, screening at Le Confort Moderne in Poitiers, France. This chilling drama about a journalist, played by Jack Nicholson, who exchanges identities with a dead man, was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the time of its release in 1975. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw calls it “a classic of a difficult and alienating kind, but one that really does shimmer in the mind like a remembered dream.

In a tribute to Sam Peckinpah, Moscow International Film Festival ‘Mediafest’ (Thursday 23 June – Saturday 2 July) is screening offbeat western Major Dundee. The film stars Richard Harris and Charlton Heston in a story about a Union officer in charge of a jail in the Southwest, where the prisoners become part of the Union troops against renegade Apaches.

Finally, audiences around the UK will be treated to a ‘One-Day Special’ of Disney’s family favourite Tinker Bell and The Great Fairy Rescue – screening at selected Cineworld venues on Saturday 18 June.
